In all fairness it’s the audiobook. I remember reading it in high school, though I can’t say with certainty if that was the first time or perhaps the second. I know since then it has become a consistent re-read when I need comfort from the world. It was one of the few books of the many I’ve read that I find part of us thinking about. Ender was just a kid placed with adult responsibilities and no one to come to his aid. There are many aspects of the story that we relate to. The isolation, the internal conflict, the delicate weighing of morality, but ultimately the knowing we were different somehow. Ender’s Game was one of the first time I felt seen in a book. Others would join that list, but the series is one of our most treasured.
